Hi,
I’m Alex your digital secretary - exclusively on your Android phone. My job
is to make your life simpler and more organized.
I can perform many tasks that make communicating with others easier.
For instance, I can track your status and switch your phone into
ring, vibrate, and silent modes automatically. You no longer need
to remember to do that yourself.
I can make exceptions by silencing calls from some people, but allowing
calls from others to ring.
The tasks included in the ADC Edition are:
Track your status
I can track what you are doing throughout the day by monitoring
your location, calendar, time of day, movement, etc. I do this so
that I know when to switch your phone into ring, vibrate, and silent
modes automatically.
Each activity that I track is called a status. Some example statuses
are: at work, at home, in a meeting, at a performance, and driving.
Make exceptions
For a specific status, you may have set most calls to either ring,
vibrate, or silent. During that status, I can make exceptions to
the rule for specific groups of contacts.
For example, I can place your phone on silent during a meeting,
but still allow calls from your coworkers.
Or when you get home, I can place your phone on ring mode, but send
all calls from work to voicemail.
Screen calls
As an alternative to me tracking your status, I can screen calls.
This task is great when you can't take all calls due to rare circumstances
that don't merit creating a status for me to track.
This task will ask you first, who you want to be able to reach you or in other words, who's calls will still ring.
I will then ask, how you want me to handle other callers, I could cause their calls to vibrate, be silent, or be rejected.
After starting this task, I will continue to screen calls until you cancel the task in the Pending Tasks menu in the Main Menu.
Provide reminders
I can deliver reminders to you about anything and also to your friends
with a text message.
For example, if you have a meeting with a friend, I can remind you
about the meeting and also remind the friend.
The reminders do not have to be at a particular time. For example
if you need to pick up milk on the way home from work, I can remind
you when you leave work, even if it is not at the usual time.
Check on people
If you have friends with an Alex digital secretary and they give
you permission, I can check the status of their phones.
For example, I can check what they are doing, whether they are available
to talk, their location, or their ETA.
Sit on your desktop
Make sure you go to your home page and turn on my home screen widget.
With my widget, you can easily change your status and give me tasks.
From my widget, I can give you reminders and tell you what status
I have set.
To turn on my widget, just tap and hold on the home screen, tap
Widgets, and tap my Alex Widget.
Soon, I’ll be able to do each of the following:
Alex learning
If you would rather not fine tune each setting and status, then
allow me to learn. Once you turn on Alex Learning, I begin learning
your preferences and recognizing patterns.
For instance, I can learn where your work location is, your schedule,
and everything else I need to know to understand what you are doing.
Answer phone calls
When you don't want to be interrupted by a phone call unless it's
important, I can inform the caller that you are unavailable but
allow the call only if it is urgent.
For all calls or only for a select few, I could say, “John is currently
in a meeting and not taking calls. If your call is an emergency
please press 1, or press 2 to leave a voicemail.”
I can also answer the phone and ask for the caller’s name and purpose
for calling, then you can decide if the call is important.
Make phone calls
Never deal with phone tag again. If you can't reach someone, let
me know. Without you being on the phone, I can make phone calls
and deliver recorded messages or put you on the line when a caller
answers the phone.
Lost-phone status
If you lose your phone, you can access your Online MyAlex Account
and change your status to Lost-Phone Status.
To protect your phone while it’s lost, I only allow outgoing calls
to those numbers you have approved (like your best friend’s phone).
I will also disable outgoing texts and the internet on the phone.
To help you locate your phone, all incoming calls will ring and
vibrate, and I will register your phone's GPS location every 30
minutes to your Online MyAlex Account.
Lost-Phone Status must be installed before the phone is lost.
Blacklist numbers
I can blacklist unwanted callers. All they will hear is, "I'm sorry,
but this number is no longer available."
Create a custom Alex
In future versions, your Online MyAlex Account will allow you to
customize my appearance, name, and personality.
Parental controls
Parental controls allows me to limit phone calls and text messages
entirely or with certain groups during any status in your child's
phone.
To begin using parental controls on your child's phone, you must
be given permission from your child’s phone.
At all times, your child's phone will be able to call emergency
numbers and your phone.
Priority callers
If you must be available for someone no matter what status or mode
your phone is set to, make that contact a priority caller.
For example, if your daughter is pregnant or you have a family member
in the hospital, make them priority callers, and I can make sure
they can reach you no matter what you are doing.
By setting priority callers, you have the liberty of using the silent
mode of your phone without ever missing emergency calls.
Extensions
By using extensions, I can identify unknown callers.
Whenever you share your number with a directory, a website, or people
that you will not place in your contact list, give them an extension
as well (example: (801) 555-5555 x333). The three digit extensions
are always associated with a group like clients, work, study group,
or soccer team.
For unknown callers, I will answer and say, “Thank you for calling
John, please enter your extension now or press # to go to voicemail.”
When you receive that call, I will display the phone number and
the group that the caller is calling from.
Collect RSVP's
Are you planning any upcoming meetings or parties? Let me take care
of the RSVPs. To obtain the RSVPs, I can call, text, or email each
of your invites and take the RSVP without interrupting you.
I’ll even schedule the event in your phone’s calendar.
